Translucent Glass and Water Features in a Memory-Focused Guest House

Project in-detail

With its focus on memory storage and the integration of translucent glass alongside natural water features, the guest house creates an immersive environment that deepens the connection between visitors and their wine experiences.

Guest house designed to evoke positive memories associated with wine.
02

05
Repurposed buildings create a unique blend of historic character and modern functionality.

The OFFSET COTTO project, titled "Human Storage," is located in Peruza, central Italy, an area known for its rich viticulture and humid subtropical climate. The design aims to blend the experience of wine with the emotions tied to memory, turning negative experiences into positive interactions. By rethinking the concept of a guest house, the project creates a space that fosters connections among visitors, nature, and the cultural significance of wine.

Functionality and Layout

The design successfully repurposes empty buildings previously without purpose, transforming them into spaces that elevate the visitor experience. The layout includes vibrant outdoor areas for wine tasting that contrast with quiet, tranquil indoor spaces within the guest house. This thoughtful arrangement accommodates various visitor needs while encouraging community interaction.

Sustainability and Comfort

Sustainability is a key focus of OFFSET COTTO. Water features and fountains are positioned strategically to cool the air naturally, enhancing comfort. Surrounding facades are designed to retain cooler air, contributing to the guests' overall experience. High ceilings help manage solar heat while allowing natural light and ventilation throughout the building.

Materiality and Aesthetics

While explicit details about materials are not provided, the design incorporates elements such as translucent glass and comfortable furnishings that reflect a modern aesthetic. These materials create visual links between the indoor environments and the natural landscape, emphasizing the goal of harmony with nature. The overall design presents a balanced approach, contributing to the unique character of OFFSET COTTO.

Careful circulation paths enhance accessibility and movement throughout the space. Visitors can navigate easily between the various areas, leading to a mix of relaxation and engagement. This arrangement fosters an essential relationship between the built environment and the sensory experience of wine.
