Timber Tower Integrating Terraces Within Woodland Canopy

Project in-detail

Set within the tranquil setting of Kemeri National Park, a timber tower with multiple terraces elevates visitor experiences while blending naturally into the landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
Timber structure is designed to blend with the surrounding forest.
02
Multiple viewing terraces provide varied perspectives of the landscape.
03
An elevated pathway enhances accessibility and visitor flow.
04
The design maintains the integrity of existing trees in the area.
05
Public and private spaces are distinctly organized for diverse visitor needs.

The design located in Kemeri National Park features a wooden tower that rises above the treetops, fitting into its natural surroundings. This structure serves various functions, acting as a guide and an observation point for visitors. The design is centered on enhancing perception through elevation, providing different viewpoints and a better connection to the landscape.

Design Concept

The main idea behind the design focuses on engaging with the landscape. The tower’s light wooden structure creates a clear visual connection to the environment, keeping its impact on the ecosystem minimal. The design maintains the existing trees, allowing the tower to be part of the natural setting without overwhelming it.

Terraced Structure

Several terraces are included in the design, each offering unique views of the park. The main terrace at the top provides wide-reaching perspectives, encouraging visitors to take in the diverse features of the landscape. This height helps visitors feel immersed in their surroundings and enhances their appreciation of nature.

Site Organization

The layout of the site is arranged to create a functional experience for visitors. An alternate pathway surrounds the tower, distinguishing public and private spaces. A public square with a ticket booth marks the entrance, while exhibition spaces and a café encourage visitors to interact and engage with one another.

Material Selection

Timber is the primary building material used in the structure, which contributes to its lightweight design. This choice not only supports sustainable practices but also strengthens the connection between the architecture and the nature around it. The design details, such as slender columns and open spaces, emphasize the relationship between the built environment and the landscape.
