Thermal Baths Enhanced by Recycled Materials and Curvilinear Forms in a Geothermal Landscape

Project in-detail

Curvilinear forms constructed from recycled materials integrate seamlessly with geothermal resources to create a guest house that fosters connection with the surrounding landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
Curvilinear structures blend with the natural topography to minimize visual disruption.
02
Recycled plastic waste integrated into structural elements enhances sustainability.
03
Geothermal water is utilized for outdoor thermal baths, promoting eco-friendly leisure.
04
Large transparent tub walls offer uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.
05
Community-focused design encourages social interaction in shared living spaces.
The architectural project is designed as a guest house that integrates sustainable practices with modern living, situated in a region abundant with geothermal resources, potentially Iceland. The primary objective of this design is to merge functionality with environmental responsibility, creating a structure that not only serves as accommodation but also enhances the natural surroundings.

The project emphasizes a fluid architectural style, characterized by circular forms and organic lines that mimic the site’s topography. The buildings are constructed using innovative 3D printing technology, which allows for efficient use of materials while minimizing waste. This construction method facilitates the use of local resources and allows for intricate architectural details not easily achievable through traditional building techniques.

Sustainability is at the core of this architectural design, utilizing geothermal energy for heating and recreational applications, such as outdoor hot tubs. These tubs are designed with transparency, allowing occupants to enjoy unobstructed views of the landscape while maintaining an immersive natural experience. The integration of geothermal water further enhances user interaction with the environment, reinforcing the project's commitment to ecological principles.

Unique Design Approaches

This project stands apart from traditional designs due to its innovative use of materials, notably basalt fiber and recycled plastics. Basalt fiber provides strength and durability, while recycled materials are creatively employed in various structural elements, presenting a practical approach to waste management. The design also prioritizes communal living spaces, which foster a sense of community among guests and promote social interaction.

Additionally, the site includes communal kitchens and en-suite rooms, thereby balancing private comfort with shared experiences. The layout encourages interaction while preserving individual privacy, which is a fundamental aspect of the overall design philosophy.

Architectural Considerations

The architectural configuration includes key components such as common living areas positioned at the center, surrounded by private quarters that include double-size beds and en-suite facilities. Each space is designed to enhance comfort and accessibility, featuring large windows that invite natural light while framing scenic views. Outdoor decks provide additional recreational space, connecting the structures to the surrounding landscape.

The project exemplifies thoughtful design, integrating ecological considerations, material innovation, and community-focused living. Readers interested in further details about the architectural plans, architectural sections, and architectural designs are encouraged to explore the project presentation for a comprehensive understanding of its functionality and unique architectural ideas.
