Sustainable Soundscape Crafted With Engineered Wood Panels and Interactive Performance Spaces

Project in-detail

Crafted from engineered wood panels and incorporating interactive sound installations, the design creates a multifunctional performance space that fosters community engagement within a natural setting.
5 key facts about this project
01
Crafted with engineered wood panels, enhancing acoustics and sustainability.
02
Features interactive sound installations inviting community participation.
03
Employs a bent A-frame design for structural integrity and visual interest.
04
Utilizes charred wooden shingles for enhanced weather resistance and aesthetic.
05
Integrates natural landscape elements, blending architecture with its environment.
The *Chromatic Soundscape* project exemplifies a harmonious blend of architecture, sound, and interactive design. Located in a forested area, the project integrates a series of dynamic performance spaces intended to engage both the performers and the surrounding natural environment. It emphasizes interactivity and community involvement, allowing visitors to experience sound in an immersive manner. The architectural design enhances the auditory experience while promoting sustainability through material choices and integration with the landscape.

Spatial Design and Elements

The project includes multiple distinct components, each designed to function both independently and as part of the whole. The central feature is the *DUO stage*, which serves as an elevated platform for performances. This structure is designed to reflect sound effectively, providing optimal acoustics. Additionally, the *All-Rounder* structure functions as a communal area where audiences can gather, encouraging social interaction and collaboration.

A notable feature of the design is the *Soundpath*, an elevated pathway that enhances the auditory experience. It allows visitors to traverse the landscape while engaging with various sound installations. Another critical element is the seating design, which employs lightweight mesh and suspension seats to provide flexible configurations adaptable to different gathering sizes and types of performances.

Innovative Interactivity in the Design

What distinguishes the *Chromatic Soundscape* project is its focus on sound as a central component of the architectural experience. Visitors are invited to participate creatively through mobile resonance panels, which provide opportunities for spontaneous musical expression. The infrastructure encourages exploration and interaction, moving beyond traditional passive observation to engage audiences in the act of sound creation.

The design employs sustainable materials, such as engineered wood panels and recycled wooden planks, prioritizing environmental responsibility. This method enhances both the aesthetic and acoustic qualities of the structures, ensuring they resonate with the surrounding environment.

Integration with Nature

The *Chromatic Soundscape* project prioritizes ecological integration, using its design elements to complement existing natural features, notably the dense tree coverage. This approach minimizes disturbance to the site while enhancing sound properties through natural reverberation. The architectural elements are seamlessly integrated into the landscape, allowing for a cohesive experience where nature and architecture coexist harmoniously.

For those interested in exploring the finer details of this project, a closer examination of the architectural plans, architectural sections, and architectural designs will provide further insight into the innovative ideas that shaped the *Chromatic Soundscape*.

Design a new small-scale home concept in the 10th edition of MICROHOME — 100,000 € prize + construction

Competition organisers

The 10th edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition invites architects and designers from around the world to explore the possibilities of compact, sustainable living. Hosted by Buildner in collaboration with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this special edition challenges participants to design an off-grid, modular microhome for a young professional couple, with a maximum floor area of 25 m². Designs should prioritize innovation, efficiency, and real-world feasibility.

A total prize fund of 100,000 € will be awarded, including three main prizes, the Kingspan Award, and the Hapi Homes Award, which will grant 15,000 € and lead to the construction of the selected design. The final registration deadline is September 25, 2025, and winners will be announced on Decebmer 9, 2025. For full competition details and submission guidelines, visit microhome.info.
