Reflective Geometry Enhancing Cyclist Experience Along The EuroVelo Path

Project in-detail

Strategically arranged with reflective geometry, the installation serves as modular bike stops along the EuroVelo 6 cycle path, enhancing functionality while integrating with its landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
Reflective geometry enhances the visibility of the modules in varying light conditions.
02
The design consists of interlocking units that allow for flexible configurations.
03
Each module accommodates specific functions while promoting user engagement.
04
Lighting features create dynamic contrasts between day and night experiences.
05
The project integrates seamlessly into the natural landscape along the cycle path.

The Temporary Monument is a modular installation located along the EuroVelo 6 cycle path. It serves as a set of bike stops while exploring the relationship between functionality and visual impact. The overall design brings a sense of presence to the landscape, catering to the needs of cyclists and enhancing their experience as they travel.

Modular Design

A modular system consisting of four individual units defines the design. Each module is designed to serve a specific function. Despite their differences, the modules share a common formal language that creates a unified look. This modularity allows for flexibility in various locations, adapting to different environments while still maintaining functionality.

Symmetry and Interlocking

The modules present a partially symmetrical three-dimensional shape. This design enables them to interlock in various configurations, leading to different arrangements and visual expressions. The relationships between aligned and misaligned elements within the modules encourage users to engage with the space. This interaction adds a layer of complexity to the experience.

Light and Shadow

Another key aspect of the design is how light interacts with the modules. The arrangement of openings creates interesting shadows during the day, highlighting contrasts between surfaces. At night, internal lighting enhances visibility and alters the experience. This fluctuation between light and shadow adds depth, drawing attention to these structures within the landscape.

The design demonstrates a clear focus on both form and function, where each module acts as a distinct entity that exists within its surroundings. The careful arrangement of geometry and light invites cyclists to appreciate their environment, enriching the journey along the path.

MICROHOME 10: Celebrating Small-Scale Living with €100,000 Prize Fund and Kingspan’s Innovation

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
