Reflective Aluminum Facades and Flowing Timber Pathways Enhancing Experience in Icelandic Landscape

Project in-detail

With reflective aluminum facades that capture the shifting light of the Northern Lights and flowing timber pathways that integrate seamlessly with the volcanic terrain, the structure serves as a contemplative observation point in the Icelandic landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
Reflective aluminum surfaces enhance interaction with natural light and the auroras.
02
Sinuous pathways designed to mimic the undulations of the landscape promote exploration.
03
Floors use cross-laminated timber panels for structural integrity and aesthetic warmth.
04
Charred wooden shingles offer durability while blending with the volcanic terrain.
05
A central tree provides a natural landmark and focal point within the site.
The "Wave & Point" project represents a thoughtful integration of architecture with the unique Icelandic landscape. Designed as an observation point for the Northern Lights, the project emphasizes the relationship between natural phenomena and the built environment. Nestled in a volcanic terrain, this architectural endeavor facilitates a connection with the surroundings while providing functional spaces for visitors to engage with the landscape.

The project comprises a series of elevated pathways and viewing platforms, allowing individuals to experience diverse perspectives of both the auroras and the geological formations. Material choices enhance the overall design, featuring wood for structural supports and flooring, aluminum railings for durability, and glass elements that provide unobstructed views. The inclusion of a central tree serves as a natural focal point within the site, enhancing the experience and anchoring the design.

Unique to "Wave & Point" is its responsiveness to the environment. The flowing lines of the structure mimic natural forms, encouraging visitors to explore and discover while maintaining a low environmental impact. Reflective materials facilitate interaction with natural light, echoing the dynamic display of the Northern Lights. This design approach not only respects the contours of the land but also creates a sensory experience that invites users to engage deeply with the surrounding nature.

In addressing both functionality and aesthetic appeal, the project stands out in its approach to blending architecture with its setting. By prioritizing user experience and using materials that harmonize with the landscape, "Wave & Point" exemplifies a modern architectural idea that is both respectful and engaging. Visitors are encouraged to delve into the architectural plans, sections, and designs to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project's innovative ideas and detailed execution.
