Rammed Earth Walls and Curvilinear Timber Elements in a Vineyard Tasting Room

Project in-detail

Utilizing reinforced rammed earth walls and curvilinear timber forms, the facility integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape to create a versatile tasting room that reflects the region's viticultural heritage.
5 key facts about this project
01
Utilizes reinforced rammed earth for thermal mass and sustainability.
02
Incorporates curvilinear timber elements inspired by traditional wine barrels.
03
Features expansive windows that frame vineyard views for enhanced visitor experience.
04
The circular bar design promotes communal interaction among guests.
05
Employs a green roof to support local biodiversity and manage stormwater.
The architectural design project "Between Land and Tradition" serves as a winery facility that emphasizes the connection between contemporary architecture and traditional viticultural practices. This project functions as both a tasting room and a multi-functional space for events, celebrating the history and culture of winemaking while facilitating a modern visitor experience.

The design features reinforced rammed earth walls, which align with sustainability objectives while providing thermal performance. The use of timber in roofing and paneling creates a familiar tactile contrast against the earthen materials. Large glass windows are strategically positioned to frame views of the vineyards, promoting an integral relationship between the interior and the natural environment surrounding the facility.

Design Approach and Unique Features

The architectural approach in this project emphasizes flexibility and community engagement. The configuration of spaces allows for a variety of uses beyond wine tasting, accommodating gatherings and events that strengthen the connection to the local community. Curvilinear architectural elements echo the traditional shape of wine barrels, creating a sense of familiarity and coherence with the winemaking process.

Natural light management is a vital aspect of the design, with window placements minimizing glare and enhancing the ambient atmosphere within the tasting room. The circular bar located at the center of the facility encourages interaction among guests, fostering a communal experience that is essential to the ethos of the winery.

Material and Construction Detail

The project utilizes a combination of materials strategically chosen for their functional and aesthetic properties. The reinforced rammed earth provides not only structural integrity but also resonates with the geographical context of the site. The gravel for the green roof contributes to environmental sustainability, while a resin floor finish throughout the interior enhances durability and ease of maintenance.

For those interested in delving deeper, exploring the architectural plans, sections, and specific designs will yield further insights into the thoughtful design methodologies employed in this project. The detailed architectural elements elucidate how "Between Land and Tradition" stands out in a landscape where many wineries may rely on conventional design approaches.
