Pyramid Structures Featuring Translucent Panels and Elevated Modules for Reflective Spaces

Project in-detail

Elevated pyramid structures with translucent panels and a reflective base create an engaging environment for contemplation and community interaction.
5 key facts about this project
01
Elevated structures enhance visibility and create a sense of ascension.
02
Translucent panels allow natural light flow while maintaining privacy.
03
Charred wooden shingles provide improved durability and fire resistance.
04
Reflective surfaces create an illusion of continuity with the landscape.
05
Design promotes both communal interaction and solitary reflection.
The architectural project features a series of pyramid-like structures elevated over a reflective surface. These structures rise against a cosmic backdrop, facilitating a unique visual interaction between the built environment and the night sky. This design promotes a sense of exploration and contemplation, aligning with themes of spirituality and connection to the cosmos.

Functionally, the project serves as a multi-use environment intended for reflection, community gathering, and individual exploration. The elevated design allows for unobstructed views and engaging interactions with the surrounding landscape, encouraging movement between the various structures. The design promotes both solitary experiences and communal activities, demonstrating flexibility in its use.

Unique Design Approaches

The project employs a distinctive structural approach through the use of pyramid forms, which reference ancient architectural practices while integrating contemporary materials and technologies. This combination creates a dialogue between historic symbolism and modern design strategies. The elevation of the structures on stilts not only enhances visibility but also fosters a feeling of ascension, inviting occupants to reflect on their existence in relation to the cosmos.

The materials selected for this project—wood, glass, steel, and a reflective finish—play a critical role in achieving its design objectives. The wooden elements provide warmth and an organic connection to the surroundings. Glass is strategically used to maintain openness while also enhancing the spatial experience by allowing natural light to penetrate the interiors. Steel components ensure structural integrity while contributing to a modern aesthetic.

Spatial Interaction

The layout of the pyramids encourages movement and exploration, with designated pathways and gathering areas that support social interaction. The reflective surface underneath the structures amplifies the visual impact, creating an illusion of continuity between the architecture and the sky. This design choice enhances the overall experience, inviting occupants to navigate through the space in a dynamic manner.

To gain deeper insights into this project, the architectural plans, architectural sections, and architectural designs provide valuable context and understanding of the design intent and spatial arrangements. Those interested in exploring innovative architectural ideas should consider reviewing these elements to appreciate the depth of this project.

Competition organisers

The 10th edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition invites architects and designers from around the world to explore the possibilities of compact, sustainable living. Hosted by Buildner in collaboration with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this special edition challenges participants to design an off-grid, modular microhome for a young professional couple, with a maximum floor area of 25 m². Designs should prioritize innovation, efficiency, and real-world feasibility.

A total prize fund of 100,000 € will be awarded, including three main prizes, the Kingspan Award, and the Hapi Homes Award, which will grant 15,000 € and lead to the construction of the selected design. The final registration deadline is September 25, 2025, and winners will be announced on Decebmer 9, 2025. For full competition details and submission guidelines, visit microhome.info.
