GAME LIFE is an architectural project located in Toronto, Canada, designed to address the pressing need for affordable housing. Utilizing a modular approach, GAME LIFE combines a series of interlocking residential units that provide flexibility and adaptability for various family configurations. This design responds directly to contemporary urban challenges, aiming to create a balanced living environment that fosters community and connection among residents.

The project emphasizes shared public spaces, which are integrated throughout the architectural design to encourage social interaction. By merging private and communal areas, residents are offered opportunities for engagement and collaboration. The overall structure not only serves as living space but also as a site for community-building activities, thereby reinforcing the social fabric of urban life.

Innovative Modular Design GAME LIFE stands out due to its unique interlocking module configuration. This design method allows for flexible living arrangements, catering to both large families and individuals. Each unit can be modified based on resident preferences, showcasing an adaptable model that traditional housing lacks. Communal terraces and gardens are strategically placed to facilitate social interactions, encouraging a sense of belonging among residents.

The incorporation of dynamic geometries further enhances the project’s visual interest. The building's facade employs a vibrant color palette that not only marks its presence within the urban landscape but also signifies different functional zones within the structure. The angular supports elevate the building, creating space for landscaped areas that contribute to both ecological diversity and urban aesthetics.

Sustainability and Connectivity Sustainability is a core principle in the design of GAME LIFE. The project integrates environmentally friendly features such as green roofs and rainwater collection systems, demonstrating a commitment to eco-conscious living. This approach not only minimizes the building’s ecological footprint but also fosters an awareness of environmental stewardship among its residents.

Large glass panels allow for ample natural light to penetrate the interiors, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor environments. This integration with nature is a vital aspect of the design, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents while promoting health and well-being.

The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge invites architects and designers to create iconic public sculptures for one of two sites in Saudi Arabia: Abu Hadriyah Road or the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar. Proposals should reflect Saudi identity, culture, and future aspirations.

`

The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge is an international architecture and design competition inviting creatives to shape the future of Saudi Arabia’s public spaces. With a total prize fund of €50,000, the competition calls for sculptural proposals that merge cultural symbolism with innovative design, offering participants a chance to see their concepts brought to life in a rapidly transforming national context.

Organised by Buildner in partnership with the Mujassam Watan Initiative, the challenge focuses on two prominent locations: Abu Hadriyah Road, a major highway and gateway into the Eastern Province, and the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar, a pedestrian-focused waterfront district. Designers must select one site and develop a sculpture that engages with its surroundings—whether addressing the fast-paced dynamism of a transit corridor or creating moments of interaction along a coastal promenade.

Proposals should be bold, site-specific, and rooted in narrative—drawing on themes such as heritage, national identity, transformation, and dialogue. Environmental responsiveness, material durability, and feasibility are strongly encouraged, as winning projects may be selected for actual construction.

Each submission must include four A2 landscape presentation boards, a cover image, and a written project description. The competition is open to professionals and students alike, working individually or in teams of up to four people. No professional license is required.

Registration is open until July 24, 2025, with final submissions due by August 27, 2025. Winners will be announced on October 1, 2025.
