The architectural design project titled "My Roof, Your Room, Our Garden" provides a response to the urban housing challenges in Hong Kong. It focuses on creating a communal residential space that accommodates high-density living while fostering social interaction among residents. By utilizing modular hexagonal units, the design allows for diverse living arrangements within a compact footprint, setting a new standard for social housing.

Modular Living Concept

The project features hexagonal modular units that can be configured in various arrangements, including sleeping pods, studios, and two-bedroom apartments. Each unit type is designed to maximize space efficiency, with sizes ranging from 8.3 m² for sleeping pods to 33.2 m² for two-bedroom units. This modular configuration not only optimizes site usage but creates opportunities for communal living that traditional housing does not frequently offer. The spacious communal areas, including shared gardens and public facilities, are integral components that encourage resident interaction and engagement.

Integration of Community Spaces

Distinct to this project is the emphasis on public spaces. Designed with a community library and garden, these areas serve as social hubs that promote community engagement and interaction. The architectural arrangement facilitates circulation among residents, minimizing the physical barriers often felt in urban environments. This integration of community spaces is a critical aspect that enhances the project’s functionality, making it more than just a series of residential units.

Sustainable Design Features

The design utilizes materials that support sustainability, such as concrete for structural integrity, glass for maximizing natural light, and steel for supportive elements. These materials enhance the project’s durability while contributing to a light-filled, welcoming living environment. The project's modular nature also allows for future adaptability, offering flexibility for changing resident needs and preferences.

"My Roof, Your Room, Our Garden" represents a progressive approach to urban living that prioritizes both individual privacy and communal interaction. The architectural decisions within this project address prevalent urban challenges while promoting a healthy lifestyle through the incorporation of extensive community-oriented features.
