The architectural project located in Tunisia represents a contemporary interpretation of local culture, intertwined with sustainable design principles. Situated near the historic Habib Bourguiba Avenue, this project redefines urban interaction through a multi-functional space that caters to various community needs. Its design is a fusion of modern architectural elements and traditional aesthetics, promoting both functionality and engagement.

The project aims to serve as a social and economic hub, accommodating activities which include markets, co-working spaces, and leisure facilities. The careful integration of various functions addresses the diverse requirements of the community while enhancing social interactions within the urban fabric.

Materiality and Form

The project emphasizes the use of durable and innovative materials, including reinforced concrete as the primary structural element, complemented by glass to enhance transparency and connection with the surrounding environment. Calligraphy paint is incorporated as an artistic element, reflecting the cultural context of Tunisia while enriching the overall aesthetic. Additionally, Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) and digital glazing create unique design opportunities, offering both structural efficiency and visual interest.

The layout features a central core that vertically organizes the space, facilitating movement and accessibility throughout. Public areas are designed for flexibility and adaptability, enabling diverse community functions. Business spaces provide a conducive environment for entrepreneurship, while leisure amenities contribute to the well-being of the users.

Innovative Structural Approaches

The project employs a hybrid structural system, utilizing super columns for effective load distribution and lateral stability. Trusses also play a key role in maintaining the building’s integrity, allowing for expansive open spaces that prioritize user experience.

Sustainability is embedded in the design with features such as green roofs and vertical gardens, which promote biodiversity and reduce environmental impacts. Efficient water management systems further enhance sustainability, demonstrating a commitment to ecological considerations.

What sets this project apart is its emphasis on integrating cultural identity within a modern framework. The design not only responds to practical needs but also cultivates a sense of place. The dynamic geometric form captures the essence of the locality, fostering community interaction while blending seamlessly with the urban landscape.
