Glazed Clay and Panoramic Glass Embrace in a Vineyard Cinema

Project in-detail

Built with innovative glazed clay and expansive panoramic glass, the cinema seamlessly integrates with its vineyard setting, enhancing visual connection with the landscape while offering a versatile space for community gatherings and film screenings.
5 key facts about this project
01
Constructed with locally sourced glazed clay, enhancing thermal performance.
02
Incorporates panoramic glass walls for unobstructed views of the vineyard.
03
Features a bent A-frame design that harmonizes with the landscape.
04
Utilizes passive solar strategies to minimize energy consumption.
05
Flexible interior layout accommodates various community use scenarios.
This architectural project, designed as a cinema set within a picturesque vineyard setting, emphasizes a seamless relationship between the built environment and its natural surroundings. The design aims to serve not just as an entertainment venue but also as a communal space that invites social interaction and appreciation of the landscape. The structure’s elongated form, characterized by its asymmetrical roof and carefully positioned openings, enhances the experience of viewing the rich scenery.

The project's primary function is to facilitate cinematic experiences while providing visitors with stunning views of the vineyard and its surroundings. With its flexible interior layout, the cinema accommodates various activities, from screenings to social gatherings, allowing the space to be utilized for diverse purposes. The integration of gathering areas fosters community interaction, encouraging visitors to engage with both the cinematic and natural elements of the environment.

Unique Design Approaches
The design approach showcases a thoughtful combination of materials and spatial strategies. The use of glazed clay for exterior cladding allows the building to harmonize with the color palette of the vineyard, while concrete foundations create a solid base that supports the structure. Expansive use of glass in various forms—clear, etched, and frosted—adds to the design by controlling light and offering different perspectives of the surrounding landscape.

The project introduces innovative view framing techniques that draw attention to the natural beauty outside. By employing three distinct viewing experiences—extend, abstract, and frame—the design actively encourages a deeper connection with nature. Each viewing method highlights different landscape features and moments throughout the day, providing a dynamic visual narrative and enhancing the overall user experience.

Application of Passive Design Strategies
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the project embraces passive design strategies to optimize energy efficiency and user comfort. The building orientation captures natural light while minimizing heat gain, which reduces reliance on mechanical heating and cooling systems. Strategic overhangs and shading elements further enhance the indoor climate, contributing to a sustainable operational model.

This project exemplifies how architecture can effectively coexist with and elevate its environmental context. Through careful material selection, spatial planning, and design innovation, the cinema not only fulfills its function as a space for entertainment but also enriches the visitor experience by connecting them with the natural landscape.
