The project "The Ellipse" is an architectural design focused on creating a contemporary yoga studio located on a hillside. This site-specific project integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, utilizing the landscape to enhance its functionality and aesthetic appeal. Comprising a central studio area and ancillary support spaces, the design facilitates both individual practice and community engagement. The architectural form is elliptical, promoting a sense of fluidity and movement while highlighting the cyclical nature of yoga and well-being.

Spatial Organization and Functionality

The design includes a central yoga studio surrounded by essential support areas such as storage, restrooms, and a pantry. This arrangement allows for effective circulation while ensuring that the primary focus remains on the practice space itself. Large glass windows punctuate the façade, inviting natural light into the interior and creating visual connections with the external environment. This setup encourages outdoor engagement, as designated garden areas extend functional use outside, accommodating additional classes and gatherings.

Unique Design Approaches

One of the distinguishing features of "The Ellipse" is its elliptical shape, which contrasts traditional rectangular studio layouts in yoga architecture. This design fosters a sense of inclusivity and enhances the spatial experience for users. The building's stepped profile not only adds to its visual interest but also ensures accessibility for all visitors. By integrating the structure with the topography of the site, the design minimizes its environmental impact while maximizing views of the surrounding landscape.

Materials and Sustainability

Material selection plays a critical role in reinforcing the building's connection to its context. The primary materials include concrete, glass, metal, and wood, each serving specific structural and aesthetic purposes. Concrete provides the necessary stability for the building, while expansive glass surfaces promote transparency and light. Metal elements offer structural robustness, and wooden finishes provide warmth and tactile comfort. The careful combination of these materials enhances the project’s sustainability, contributing to a harmonious relationship between architecture and nature.
