5 key facts about this project
01
Elevated design incorporates pilings to enhance views of the vineyard.
02
Extensive use of glass maximizes natural light and visual connections.
03
OSB panels provide a sustainable structural element with thermal efficiency.
04
The intimate layout fosters a social atmosphere for wine tasting.
05
A balcony extension seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces.
The Monte D’Oiro Wine Tasting Room is a contemporary architectural project situated in the picturesque landscape of Portugal’s wine country. Designed to serve as a welcoming space for wine enthusiasts, the project integrates seamlessly into the agricultural context of its surroundings while reflecting local architectural traditions. This facility provides an engaging environment for visitors to experience the region's viticulture, encouraging interaction with the landscape and an appreciation of the winemaking process.

The wine tasting room has been designed to accommodate approximately 30 guests, creating an intimate setting that promotes social interaction. The rectangular layout, measuring approximately 8 x 3 meters, enhances functionality while maintaining a connection to nature. One of its notable features is the extensive use of glass, which allows natural light to permeate the interior and offers unobstructed views of the vineyards, effectively blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Engagement with the Landscape
A distinctive aspect of the Monte D’Oiro Wine Tasting Room is its thoughtful integration into the surrounding landscape. Elevated on pilings, the design echoes traditional agricultural structures while providing a platform for visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards. This elevation not only enhances the aesthetic experience but also encourages guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region. The balcony extension facilitates outdoor wine tastings, further linking the space to its agricultural roots while fostering a sensory experience reflective of the seasons and cultivation processes.

Materiality and Sustainable Design
The project employs a meticulously chosen palette of materials, including wood, OSB boards, plywood, concrete, aluminum, and steel. This selection highlights both local availability and the project’s commitment to sustainability. Wood and OSB are prominent for their functional qualities and aesthetic warmth, while concrete provides durability and stability. Large glass panels incorporated into the design maximize natural light, reducing reliance on artificial illumination and creating a breathable environment that aligns with passive design principles. The incorporation of these sustainable elements exemplifies a design approach that respects the environment while fostering user comfort.

For those seeking a deeper understanding of the Monte D’Oiro Wine Tasting Room, exploring architectural plans, sections, and various design elements will provide further insights into this project’s thoughtful execution and unique context.
