Elevated Retreat Crafted with Thermal Clay and Natural Stone for Mindful Reflection

Project in-detail

Elevated on pilotis and constructed with locally sourced thermal clay and natural stone, the retreat offers a serene environment for yoga and meditation while maintaining a deep connection to its surrounding landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
Elevated design on pilotis to minimize environmental impact and enhance views.
02
Constructed with extensive use of thermal clay for improved indoor temperature regulation.
03
Integrated rainwater harvesting system to support landscape irrigation.
04
Sloped roofs strategically positioned to maximize natural light and ventilation.
05
Outdoor gathering spaces designed to foster community while maintaining privacy.
The “Sunrise of the Sunset” yoga retreat in Vale de Moises is designed to promote wellness through structured architecture that integrates with the natural environment. The project serves as a haven for yoga practitioners, incorporating spaces specifically designed for relaxation, meditation, and communal activities. The architecture emphasizes a connection to the landscape, incorporating sustainable materials and construction techniques to enhance the user experience.

The retreat is organized into three distinct zones: one focused on waking, another on transitioning, and the last on deep sleep. This zoning effectively aligns with the various states of meditation, facilitating activities appropriate to each phase. The spatial arrangement encourages interaction and community while maintaining areas for personal reflection. The building's elevation on pilotis allows for views of the surroundings and reduces ground-level impact, demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Unique Design Approaches and Materials

A significant characteristic of the retreat is its use of locally sourced materials such as wood, clay, and natural stone. Wood is used extensively throughout the structure for framing and finishes, creating warmth and a direct connection to the surrounding environment. Clay finishes provide thermal regulation, enhancing indoor comfort. Natural stone elements contribute to the durability and integration of the building with the earth.

The architectural design incorporates sloped roofs and strategically placed openings that maximize natural light and airflow. This design choice not only reduces energy use but also fosters a sense of harmony with nature. Outdoor gathering spaces have been thoughtfully integrated, encouraging community interaction while maintaining a sense of seclusion and privacy for individual practices.

Connection with Nature and Environmental Considerations

The retreat prioritizes its connection with nature through outdoor features that complement its architectural design. Rainwater harvesting systems have been implemented for irrigation, ensuring the surrounding landscape remains nourished. The manipulation of light and shadow is another essential aspect of the design. The placement of windows and rooflines allows for shifting patterns throughout the day, creating an environment that responds dynamically to the natural environment.

Overall, the “Sunrise of the Sunset” yoga retreat presents an architectural response that aligns with the principles of wellness and mindfulness. Each design element has been carefully considered to enable a deeper connection to the natural world while providing functionality for various group and individual activities. For further insights into this project, we encourage you to explore the architectural plans, sections, and designs that illustrate the thoughtful ideas behind this distinctive retreat.
