Corten Steel Facade and Umbra Limestone Define a Sustainable Vineyard Retreat

Project in-detail

With a facade constructed from weathering Corten steel and an interior finished with local Umbra limestone, the design seamlessly integrates sustainable practices into its function as a wine tasting and hospitality venue within a working vineyard.
5 key facts about this project
01
Constructed with weathering Corten steel, the facade actively interacts with the environment over time.
02
Utilizes local Umbra limestone for both aesthetic and ecological integration within the landscape.
03
Features a central courtyard designed to enhance community engagement and social interaction.
04
Incorporates geothermal heating and cooling systems for energy efficiency throughout the year.
05
Adapts a spiraled roof form that optimizes natural light and panoramic vineyard views from all rooms.
The Oasis Tili Resort is a contemporary architectural project designed for a family winery in the Umbria Valley of Italy. This development integrates hospitality with agricultural practice, creating a unique venue that fosters engagement with the surrounding vineyard landscape. The architecture emphasizes sustainability, local materiality, and a design approach that intertwines nature with built forms.

The primary function of the Oasis Tili Resort is to serve as a tasting room and lodging facility, enhancing the wine experience through its architectural layout and integration with the environment. The project features circular guest accommodations that offer panoramic views of the vineyard, while communal areas encourage interaction among visitors. The dining and tasting spaces are designed to provide seamless access to the outdoors, capitalizing on the natural beauty of the Umbria region.

A distinctive aspect of the project is its focus on integrating the surrounding agricultural landscape into the guest experience. The rounded forms of the architecture provide a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, reinforcing the connection to the vineyard. The use of local materials, such as beige bricks, timber, and Umbra limestone, grounds the structure within its setting. This material choice also speaks to the project’s commitment to sustainability and environmental sensitivity.

Another key feature is the incorporation of sustainable practices throughout the design. Geothermal energy systems are utilized for climate control, while rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling systems contribute to efficient water management. Additionally, the design includes space for organic gardens, further emphasizing the project’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and self-sufficiency.

The layout of the Oasis Tili Resort is another important design consideration. The central courtyard serves as a focal point for communal gatherings, and its integration into the design facilitates social interaction. This approach encourages a sense of community within the resort and reflects the project's broader vision of connecting individuals to the regional agricultural context.

The Oasis Tili Resort stands apart from similar developments through its harmonious integration of aesthetic design, functionality, and sustainability. This project exemplifies how architecture can enhance the experience of the natural landscape while promoting ecological practices in a tourism setting.

For those interested in exploring this project further, it is advisable to review the architectural plans, sections, and specific designs that illustrate the innovative ideas embedded within the project. This examination will provide deeper insights into the architectural strategies and thought processes that define the Oasis Tili Resort.
