The tower’s layout encourages community interaction with designated spaces for activities and gatherings.
The Kurģi Observation Tower is an architectural project situated within the Latvia Biosphere Reserve, designed to enhance the experience of visitors engaging with the natural landscape. The tower's primary function is to serve as a vantage point for observing the surrounding flora and fauna, as well as a hub for community activities related to local traditions such as horseback riding. The design reflects a thoughtful integration of cultural heritage with contemporary architectural practices, establishing a connection between traditional Latvian elements and modern environmental awareness.

Integration of Nature and Culture
One of the defining features of the Kurģi Observation Tower is its commitment to creating a dialogue with the surrounding environment. The structure employs a multi-level design that emphasizes interaction with nature. The colored steel columns and platforms not only enhance structural integrity but also serve as visual markers that draw attention to the unique landscape. The integration of large glass panels allows for unobstructed views, fostering a sense of openness and encouraging visitors to explore.

The project embodies sustainability through the installation of solar panels on the roof, positioning it as an eco-friendly structure. The choice of materials, including steel for the frame and lightweight grating for the flooring, supports both the weight of the building and the environmental ethos of reducing material impact. These choices reflect a unique approach to balancing aesthetics with functionality and sustainability.

Community-Centric Design
The Kurģi Observation Tower is designed with community interaction in mind. The accessible layout features elevators and staircases that facilitate movement throughout the structure. Walking paths and open spaces encourage social engagement while providing areas for recreation and contemplation. The design does not prioritize a single function but instead offers flexible spaces that can accommodate various activities, from guided nature observations to informal gatherings.

The color palette, inspired by local aesthetics, enhances the sense of place while encouraging exploration. The project avoids a traditional architectural monologue by inviting visitors to engage with the space dynamically. This focus on community use differentiates the tower from many other observation structures that may prioritize aesthetics over user experience.
