Charred Wooden Shingles and Laminated Timber Create a Modern Winery Experience in Nature

Project in-detail

Constructed with charred wooden shingles and glued-laminated timber, the design emphasizes sustainability and local materials, embodying a modern winery that enhances visitor engagement with the surrounding landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
First winery in the region to utilize charred wooden shingles for enhanced weather resistance Innovative use of cross-laminated timber panels reduces carbon footprint during construction Bent A-frame design maximizes natural light and views of the surrounding vineyards Integration of native vegetation promotes ecological sustainability and local biodiversity Multi-functional spaces facilitate community events and social gatherings while supporting winemaking activities.
Giardino del Bacco Winery is an architectural project that exemplifies the integration of functionality and aesthetics in the context of winemaking. Located in a region rich in viniculture, this winery is designed to serve multiple purposes, including wine production, tasting, dining, and accommodation. It aims to enhance visitor engagement with the winemaking process while respecting the surrounding landscape.

The architectural design reflects a contemporary interpretation of traditional winery forms, utilizing pitched roofs, expansive glass features, and a palette of sustainable materials. This project does not merely function as a production facility; it embodies the cultural and social aspects of winemaking, creating a space for community interaction and celebration.

Innovative Design Approaches

One of the standout features of the Giardino del Bacco Winery is its careful material selection. The use of impregnated matured wood for the façade provides both durability and a connection to the natural environment. This choice aligns with sustainable practices in architecture, reducing the environmental impact while enhancing the aesthetic appeal. The vertical wood cladding, coupled with granite pavements in varying shades, promotes visual continuity throughout the site.

The spatial organization is another unique aspect of the design. The project consists of a thoughtfully arranged guest house, wine tasting areas, and an event space, which not only maximizes functionality but also enhances the visitor experience. Each zone is strategically placed to offer views of the vineyards and gardens, reinforcing a sense of place and connection to the landscape.

Architectural Elements and Functional Aspects

The winery's design includes distinct zones for various activities, creating a seamless flow between different functions. The guest house features essential amenities, with rooms designed for comfort and relaxation after a day of exploration. The main dining area is expansive, allowing for the hosting of events and social gatherings, thus fostering a sense of community.

The use of large windows and terraces provides natural light and outdoor access, enhancing the overall ambiance within the wine-tasting and dining facilities. This integration between indoor and outdoor spaces encourages visitor interaction with the environment, further enriching their experience.
