"Journey Along The Greens" is a hospice home designed to support terminally ill patients and their families by creating a serene, comforting environment. Situated within a landscape of existing trees and natural surroundings, the architecture emphasizes a strong connection to nature. The design promotes not just physical comfort but also emotional well-being through thoughtful planning of open spaces, circulation, and integration of indoor and outdoor areas.

This project functions as a transitional space, facilitating the journey of patients while respecting the nuanced needs of their families and caregivers. The layout incorporates communal gathering areas, private retreats, and direct access to nature, ensuring that all users can find solace in their experiences. The design encourages mobility and interaction, reinforcing social support and a sense of community.

Unique Design Approaches

The design of "Journey Along The Greens" distinguishes itself from typical hospice facilities through its emphasis on maintaining a cohesive relationship with the surrounding environment. The architects opted for extensive use of glass to create a feeling of openness, allowing natural light to permeate the building. This approach not only enhances visibility but also fosters a connection to the landscape.

Natural materials such as wood, concrete, and stone are used extensively throughout the project, contributing to a sense of warmth and care within the space. The carefully curated material palette is essential in creating an inviting atmosphere that eschews the clinical feel often associated with medical facilities. The project includes multiple outdoor areas, promoting patient engagement with the environment and fostering a therapeutic connection with nature.

The layout encourages intentional circulation patterns, guiding users through different zones of the facility. Communal spaces foster interaction, while private areas allow for individual reflection. This thoughtful arrangement balances social and solitary experiences, catering to diverse needs.

Integration of Artwork and Natural Landscaping

"Journey Along The Greens" features intentional placements of artwork and landscaping design that enhance the overall experience. The presence of art installations within the building and gardens adds a layer of serenity and contemplation, crucial for the emotional well-being of patients and their families.

The surrounding landscape incorporates native plant species, further blending the architecture with its context. This natural integration not only supports biodiversity but also reinforces the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability. As users navigate the facility, the architectural design promotes a holistic experience, transcending the traditional boundaries of hospice care to create an environment that feels more like home.
