Charred Wooden Shingles and Cross-Laminated Timber Define a Sustainable Micro-Home Solution

Project in-detail

Utilizing charred wooden shingles and cross-laminated timber, this micro-home achieves exceptional sustainability while providing a compact living solution tailored for modern lifestyles.
5 key facts about this project
01
Utilizes charred wooden shingles for enhanced weather resistance and aesthetic appeal.
02
Incorporates cross-laminated timber panels to optimize structural integrity and insulation.
03
Features a bent A-frame design that maximizes interior space while maintaining a compact footprint.
04
Includes an integrated rainwater harvesting system for improved sustainability.
05
Designed for passive solar heating and natural ventilation, reducing energy dependence.
The Tego project represents a modern micro-architecture designed to address contemporary housing challenges by focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency. This residential solution skillfully integrates essential living spaces including a kitchen, bathroom, library, and living areas within a compact footprint, allowing for optimal use of resources while maintaining a functional layout. The project is positioned in a temperate climate, allowing for the implementation of passive heating strategies and natural ventilation to enhance comfort without relying heavily on external energy sources.

Design Features and Innovation

What sets the Tego project apart from conventional home designs is its commitment to intelligent space utilization and sustainable practices. The architecture leverages natural materials such as sustainably harvested wood and natural stone, contributing both to the structural integrity and aesthetic warmth of the interiors. Large windows, strategically placed on the southern facade, maximize natural light and create opportunities for passive solar heating. This design choice not only reduces energy consumption but enhances the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, promoting a lifestyle integrated with nature.

A notable feature of this project is its incorporation of a phytoremediation system, which employs specific plants to purify water and air. This innovative approach not only contributes to environmental health but also creates a visually appealing landscape that enriches the living environment. Additionally, the multi-functional nature of the interior spaces allows residents to adapt rooms for various uses, promoting flexibility and efficient living.

Sustainability and Resource Management

The Tego project's design includes a comprehensive water management system that utilizes rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling, allowing for self-sufficiency in water resources. Integrated insulation materials are employed to ensure energy efficiency, minimizing heat loss in winter and controlling temperature in summer. These elements reflect a holistic approach to design that prioritizes sustainability while fulfilling the everyday needs of residents.

Tego stands as a model for future architectural endeavors, merging ecological responsibility with functionality. Its streamlined design and commitment to sustainable living practices set a benchmark for other residential projects in the realm of micro-architecture.
