Tectonics of Time is an architectural project that establishes a dialogue between natural geological processes and human interaction. Located at the convergence of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, it combines functionality with an exploration of the Earth’s geological narrative. The design includes elements that promote visitor engagement while emphasizing the ongoing movements of the Earth.

The project features two primary towers—the View Tower and the Cave Tower. The View Tower is an elevated structure designed to provide panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape. Its minimalist concrete form expresses durability while seamlessly integrating with the rugged environment. In contrast, the Cave Tower delves into the underground, offering access to Kvennagja cave and allowing for an immersive experience within geological formations. Both towers incorporate a series of portals that facilitate movement between them, symbolizing the temporal and dynamic nature of tectonic activity. These elements encourage visitors to reflect on geological time and the processes that shape the Earth.

Design a new small-scale home concept in the 10th edition of MICROHOME — 100,000 € prize + construction

Competition organisers

The 10th edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition invites architects and designers from around the world to explore the possibilities of compact, sustainable living. Hosted by Buildner in collaboration with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this special edition challenges participants to design an off-grid, modular microhome for a young professional couple, with a maximum floor area of 25 m². Designs should prioritize innovation, efficiency, and real-world feasibility. 

A total prize fund of 100,000 € will be awarded, including three main prizes, the Kingspan Award, and the Hapi Homes Award, which will grant 15,000 € and lead to the construction of the selected design.
