5 key facts about this project
The Expo Center in Kipsala is being revamped to improve its functionality and appearance. Located on the Daugava River, close to central Riga, the center faces challenges due to the large parking lot that takes up much of the site. The current entrance and lobby do not adequately serve visitors, making the overall experience less than optimal. The design aims to enhance visitor flow and accessibility while creating a more inviting atmosphere.
Design Concept and Façade
The new design features a larger lobby that provides a clear focal point for visitors. This space will not only welcome people but also guide them through the building more effectively. The façade of the new structure consists of a solid block design that offers a calm visual effect. This choice is meant to create harmony with the nearby environment and to ensure that the building fits into the context of Kipsala.
Functional Spaces
Inside, the layout includes various functional areas, highlighted by an open auditorium that can accommodate over 300 people. This auditorium is designed for flexibility, able to host different types of events. Additionally, the center will have important visitor amenities such as a front desk, multiple cloakrooms, and a restaurant. These features aim to improve the overall visitor experience and make the center more user-friendly.
Modular Conference Facilities
On the second level, the design incorporates conference halls that can be reconfigured using movable walls. This allows for the integration of up to three halls, making it possible to host large gatherings of more than 750 individuals. A spacious foyer is also included for breaks and informal discussions, enhancing the usability of the event spaces.
Accessibility and Parking
Accessibility is a major consideration in the design, ensuring that all users, including those with disabilities, can navigate the center with ease. To support this goal, there will be a six-story parking facility that accommodates up to 760 vehicles. This solution addresses the existing challenges related to parking and helps to streamline the visitor experience.
The overall design includes an exploration path that connects the entrance to one of the canals along the Daugava River. This feature promotes outdoor exhibitions and encourages community involvement, making the Expo Center a more integrated part of Kipsala.
