Breathable Kinetic Canopy With Granite Niches in a Sustainable Memorial Space

Project in-detail

A kinetic canopy woven from reinforced cables creates a dynamic breathing effect, complemented by granite niches and permeable surfaces, providing an immersive sanctuary for reflection and remembrance.
5 key facts about this project
01
Kinetic roof mechanism simulates human breathing through responsive design elements.
02
Integrated daisy rain garden promotes local biodiversity and natural water management.
03
Granite niches provide dedicated spaces for remembrance, enhancing visitor engagement.
04
Reinforced steel cables create structural flexibility while maintaining aesthetic fluidity.
05
Permeable paving facilitates sustainable drainage and enhances site accessibility.
The architectural design project "SIGH ETERNAL" presents a thoughtfully conceived space dedicated to reflection and remembrance. It is designed as a sanctuary that embodies the themes of life, loss, and the cyclical nature of existence. Positioned within a natural landscape, the project aims to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings while facilitating personal engagement with memory and emotion.

The architecture consists of a series of interwoven spaces that mimic the rhythms of breathing. These spaces are enhanced by their materiality and form, which together create an environment inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and connect with both the site and their inner thoughts. The design integrates multiple architectural elements that facilitate interaction with the natural world, fostering a serene and contemplative atmosphere.

The unique aspects of "SIGH ETERNAL" lie within its innovative design approaches. One notable feature is the kinetic roof mechanism, which simulates breathing movements in relation to visitor activity. This element incorporates sensors that respond to human presence, augmenting the emotional impact of the space. The roof’s dynamic function enhances the experiential quality of the design, providing an unhindered connection between architecture and user.

Additionally, the project features a daisy rain garden, a significant ecological design aspect that manages rainwater while promoting biodiversity. This garden acts not only as a functional component but also as a sensory experience, incorporating flowering plants that enrich the surroundings and symbolize themes of purity and vitality. Such integration of nature into the architecture emphasizes the project's commitment to sustainability.

Another critical element is the mechanical diaphragm, which visually represents breath. The diaphragm’s responsive design incorporates reinforced steel cables and aluminum wire to create a structure that reflects the rhythm of life. This innovative construction allows visitors to engage in a dialogue with the architecture, reinforcing the connection between the human experience and the physical environment.

The architectural materials selected for this project, including concrete, granite, and permeable paving, contribute to its durability while harmonizing with the natural context. The careful choice of materials not only supports the functional requirements of the design but also enhances the aesthetic coherence of the sanctuary.

In summary, "SIGH ETERNAL" serves as a distinctive architectural project that combines innovative design with meaningful function. Its unique elements, such as the kinetic roof and rain garden, highlight its commitment to both sustainability and user experience.
