The Forest Temple sits quietly in a clearing within a forest, designed as a retreat that encourages personal reflection and a connection to the surrounding nature. The tower rises gracefully, creating a focal point within the lush landscape. This structure invites individuals to step away from the distractions of modern life and find a space dedicated to contemplation. The journey leading to the tower is an important part of the experience, guiding visitors toward a deeper awareness of their surroundings.

Structural Form

The Forest Temple features a slender, elevated tower that blends with the natural environment. Visitors approach along a winding path that helps transition them from the outside world to a tranquil sanctuary. A single window on the façade is strategically placed to allow natural light while keeping the interior private. This window frames views that encourage a peaceful interaction with the forest.

Interior Experience

Inside the tower, careful attention has been given to enhance the visitor experience. The floor is set at hip height, making entry comfortable and inviting. The low ceiling creates a sense of intimacy that draws occupants inward. A small stove serves both cooking and heating needs, adding to the functionality of the space. Drawers filled with herbal teas create a pleasant aroma, enriching the experience and encouraging moments of pause.

Thoughtful Arrangement

The interior arrangement focuses on simplicity and utility, ensuring every element plays a role in the overall atmosphere. A low table with a beeswax candle provides a place for reading and reflection. A timber ladder leads to a loft area that includes a tatami floor and a wide bench, situated to provide views of the tree canopy through the window. This design invites a blend of comfort and observation of the natural world.

Sustainability Measures

The design incorporates a roof with an open oculus, allowing both light and rain to enter. This feature fosters a dynamic engagement with the changing weather, offering a unique aspect to the indoor environment. Rainwater is collected and directed to a pool on the roof, then drained to a water butt at the base, illustrating practical considerations for environmental sustainability while maintaining a strong connection to the landscape.

The entrance features a square opening that aligns with the wooden façade, welcoming visitors into a space where focus and calmness are prioritized. The use of natural materials enhances the connection between the tower and its surroundings, creating a refuge aimed at facilitating personal reflection and tranquility.
