The Forest Interlude project is an architectural design model for a food court, strategically placed within a forested area. This project serves as a social hub during the Sanssu music festival, designed to enhance visitors' interactions with both food offerings and performances. The project enables a direct connection between the built environment and the natural landscape, promoting an engaging experience for attendees.

The design incorporates three distinct structures, each contributing to a cohesive yet varied spatial arrangement. The angular forms of these structures draw inspiration from traditional architectural styles, reinterpreting local vernacular in a modern context. This thoughtful integration of form and function provides users with a functional space while maintaining a focus on community interaction and natural immersion.

Spatial Organization and Functional Segmentation

The layout features a central gathering area, surrounding which the individual food court structures are arranged. This organization encourages movement and flow, promoting a sense of community among festival participants. The juxtaposition of solid and translucent materials enhances visibility, allowing light to permeate the interiors during the day, and creating an inviting atmosphere for evening events.

Design a new small-scale home concept in the 10th edition of MICROHOME — 100,000 € prize + construction

Competition organisers

The 10th edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition invites architects and designers from around the world to explore the possibilities of compact, sustainable living. Hosted by Buildner in collaboration with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this special edition challenges participants to design an off-grid, modular microhome for a young professional couple, with a maximum floor area of 25 m². Designs should prioritize innovation, efficiency, and real-world feasibility. 

A total prize fund of 100,000 € will be awarded, including three main prizes, the Kingspan Award, and the Hapi Homes Award, which will grant 15,000 € and lead to the construction of the selected design.
