Denver, CO – Buildner, in collaboration with SAR+ Architects, introduces the Denver Single-Stair Housing Challenge, the 18th competition in Buildner’s Affordable Housing Challenge series. This initiative seeks to address the housing crisis and climate change by inviting architects, designers, and urban planners to design innovative single staircase, multi-story residential housing for underutilized sites in Denver.
Point access block (PAB) housing, also known as single-stair housing, is a prevalent and efficient design in urban environments globally but is largely absent in North America due to outdated building codes. This competition highlights these regulatory barriers and proposes creative solutions that demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of PAB housing.
Participants are encouraged to reimagine mid-rise buildings up to six stories high, integrating sustainable design principles and enhancing urban livability. The competition aims to influence policy changes by showcasing innovative designs, promoting diverse, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions for the future.
The Denver Single-Stair Housing Challenge competition registration is open until December 12, 2024, with winners of the 20,000 $ prize to be announced on March 6, 2025. Visit https://architecturecompetitions.com/pointaccessblock for more details.
